rThis round’s bullet is an open tip. Think of it as an upgrade over the FMJ in terms of accuracy, although it is not a bullet with significantly different terminal performance than the FMJ’s. The open tip nose cavity doesn’t deliver terminal expansion. It’s there because it allowed Winchester to inject molten lead inside a fully formed copper jacket – hence the reason for the open tip’s excellent in-flight rotational stability.
rThis round’s bullet weighs 200 grains: heavy, and the only reason for its low 1,060 fps muzzle velocity. The speed of sound is ~1,125 fps (depending on a few factors, like elevation above sea level). In any event, you can trust this round not to create a sharp supersonic crack on ignition – precisely why it’s ideal for firing through a suppressor.
