This 20 Gauge shotshell from Fiocchi’s Golden Turkey TSS line of ammunition is loaded with nothing less than Tungsten Super Shot. TSS is made of 95 percent tungsten alloy – with some iron and nickel thrown in for good measure – which makes this shell’s shot completely compliant with the USFWS ban on lead projectiles.
rBut its eco-friendliness isn’t what makes TSS truly special. Lead is only about 63 percent as dense as TSS, which is why a 0.08†diameter #9 TSS pellet is able to retain roughly as much downrange momentum as a 0.13†diameter #4 lead shot pellet. Because this turkey shell’s shot pellets are so much smaller, it’s able to put about 61 percent more wound channels through a turkey’s broadside!
rDense #9 TSS is able to resist wind deflection and penetrate just as deeply as #4 shot, too. And because its predominantly tungsten composition makes TSS so hard, this round’s shot pellets are immune to pattern-weakening deformation under pressure. Fiocchi has over 100 years of experience loading ammunition, and their factory in Missouri turns out the premium components TSS needs to exhibit its best performance.
