rWe can’t rightly call this ammunition SS197SR spec, seeing as how FN Herstal isn’t the one that makes it. Even so, Hornady is the exclusive manufacturer of the V-MAX, which makes this Nebraskan-made ammo just about as close to SS197SR as possible. Main difference? A 1,810 fps muzzle velocity out of a 4.8†barrel, which is around 72 fps faster than the SS197SR.
rThe V-MAX is a bullet of many talents. Between its sharp polymer tip, thin and concentric Advanced Manufacturing Process jacket, and level, jacketed base, the V-MAX stabs a clean, straight path through the air with all due predictability. Once impact smashes the V-MAX’s tip into its precision-formed lead core, the bullet pretty much self-destructs. All that expansion and fragmentation are not going to do a varmint any favors.
