Description
We don’t like to pick favorites among the manufacturers featured on our site, but we do have an especial fondness for Black Hills Ammunition. We like that they were founded by a cop who was super passionate about handloading. We love that they’re based in South Dakota, home to some of the finest people we know. And we like that Black Hills’ ammo is so high quality that it’s utilized by elite military sniper teams and major firearm manufacturers alike.
rWe especially love it when Black Hills loads Hornady’s GMX. This 6.5 Creedmoor round’s solid copper bullet has a lot to offer. There’s hunting in California, for starters. There’s the fact that so resistant a bullet consistently retains as little as 95 percent of its weight. And if you like many others believe a lead bullet will foul your game’s meat, the GMX poses no threat of that at all!
rLike other top shelf monolithic bullets, the GMX offsets its greater length with pressure relieving grooves designed to reduce barrel fouling. And it puts its high weight retention to good use, too. The GMX’s polymer tip hides a deep nose cavity, into which it plunges during penetration to promote highly injurious expansion.
rBlack Hills selects other leading manufacturers’ finest components to load one of their Gold label rounds. These cartridges are assembled with premium brass and primers, loaded to a consistent 2,900 fps muzzle velocity, and studied thoroughly during inspection.
