Description
We love PMC’s X-TAC label 5.56×45 M855 ammunition. It gives you a good feel for the same kind of penetrator ammo used by the U.S. Armed Forces, and its great quality and outstanding value make it perfect for shooting targets with an AR-15 at the range.
rThis round’s bullet weighs in at 62 grains – a touch heavier than usual, and accordingly stabilized best by a 1:8†or 1:9†barrel twist. As a full metal jacket it’s designed to provide optimal functionality in a semi-automatic firearm by promoting smooth feeding and minimizing the rate of barrel fouling, and the jacket’s cannelure helps to stop recoil from jarring the bullet out of its seating in the case mouth.
rThe M855 bullet’s signature feature is just beneath the tip of its green-painted jacket. The solid steel frontal core is designed to help the bullet pierce a 1/8†thick sheet of steel at approximately 2,000 feet. That’s not of importance if you only use this ammo for target shooting, although you must take caution not to bring it to a range which prohibits “magnetic†bullets.
rPMC is the South Korean military’s primary small arms ammo supplier. They draw, taper and cut their own reloadable brass cases, and load noncorrosive Boxer primers as well.
