Description
The 458 SOCOM was developed after the events of Operation Gothic Serpent demonstrated the inadequacies of the 5.56x45mm. Did Tony Rumore of Tromix and Marty ter Weeme of Teppo Jutsu have bears in mind when they designed the 458 SOCOM? No. But HSM certainly did when they loaded these powerful rounds in Montana.
r
rThis cartridge is loaded with a 320 grain jacketed flat point projectile. HSM has not published its ballistic data at the time of writing, although a muzzle velocity of approximately 1,875 fps (ME ~2,498 ft lbs) would be reasonable in light of the bullet’s weight. The JFP’s broad tip nicks a wide entry wound into its target. The heavy copper-jacketed bullet penetrates deeply while simultaneously deforming and tumbling. Proper shot placement spells the difference between an irate bear and a nice rug.
r
rHSM has serviced many distributors, law enforcement agencies, and major retailers (such as AmmoToGo.com) since their foundation in 1968. They remain a family-owned company to this day, with a team that shares over one century of commercial loading experience.
