These .45 ACP ARX rounds are an innovative self-defense offering made by PolyCase under the Ruger license. PolyCase, a Georgia based company, manufactures the unique projectiles used in this load via injection molding with a material mixture of metal and polymer. As a result, ARX bullets are hard enough to withstand cycling, firing, and deep penetration but soft enough to break apart on contact with hard materials in order to prevent collateral damage. In addition, these distinctive projectiles are quite light as the .45 Auto version weighs only 118 grains but experiences a drastic increase in muzzle velocity up to 1,307 feet-per-second.
rLacking a hollow-point cavity or any means for expansion, the ARX’s wounding mechanic comes in the form of three flutes which are molded in during production. Upon entry, the spinning motion of the bullet alongside the significantly high velocity work to drill the round through fluid while the flutes direct energy perpendicular to the direction of travel. This turbine-like design to opens up large wound channels around the the projectile while completely dispersing momentum and eliminating over-penetration.
rOther components used to assemble this Ruger ammunition are conventional brass casings, premium smokeles powder, and non-corrosive Boxer primers. The ARX’s three flutes do not interfere with its overall silhouette which acts similarly to an FMJ round for reliably feeding.
