Description
This 223 Rem cartridge from Federal’s Varmint & Predator line of ammunition is well named, because with its 53 grain V-MAX it’s perfect for stopping meddlesome rodents from putting holes where you’d rather they not be and coyote from purloining your more delicate livestock. The bullet’s accuracy is spot on, as its optimal bearing surface, concentric jacket, and centered polymer tip all enhance its rotational stability greatly. Said tip is also exceptionally sharp to seamlessly slide between the air molecules it encounters in flight.
rThe V-MAX’s tip sits snugly on the rim of its jacket, and extends a long leg into a shaft formed within the underlying swaged lead core. When it strikes a varmint or predator it gets driven rapidly inward, at which point it violently disrupts everything around it to unleash tremendous energy and fragmentation. Varmints and predators hate it when such a thing occurs inside their bodies, to such an extent that they will quickly die. Hornady’s bullet is complemented swimmingly by Federal’s superb components, loading practices, and quality control, so if your next hunt’s a bust it won’t be on account of your ammo.
