Description
Looking for 5.56×45 ammo which performs admirably for casual target shooting and plinking? What about AR-15 ammo that can really hold its own in a fight? Winchester’s M855 ammo checks both of those boxes – or punches holes through them, to be more accurate.
rThis round features the penetrator bullet – you can tell as much by its tip, which is painted green. Inside the bullet’s full metal jacket is a two-piece core: lead in the back, hardened steel in the front. Its steel penetrator tip fortifies the bullet for more reliable passage through hard barriers including wallboard and sheet metal, and at close range it can easily punch 18†deep into ballistic gelatin.
rThis round’s bullet weighs 62 grains, seven of which are its steel tip. A heavier 5.56 bullet is best stabilized by a 1:8 or 1:9 twist barrel. A 1:7 barrel should serve you just fine if you’re not sniping, but a 1:12 twist barrel will fail to correctly stabilize the heavier bullet.
rWhat’s up with this ammo’s cases? Are they reloaded? Hardly! They’re brand new, and they’re only gray around their shoulders because they weren’t buffed up after being strengthened via heat-treatment.
