A jacketed hollow point is effective – but it is not infallible. If its jacket and core separate during penetration of a barrier or the threat, then it may lose the momentum it needs to excavate a deep wound column. And if its nose cavity gets obstructed with debris, then a JHP may fail to expand altogether.
rThis 9mm +P+ round by Underwood is loaded with Lehigh Defense’s Xtreme Defender. It is made of solid copper: no core or jacket that can separate, and abnormally tough to ensure virtually perfect weight retention during penetration of a wide range of barriers. The Xtreme Defender doesn’t expand at all as it bores through soft tissue. Instead its fluted surface generates hydraulic pressure, which forces surrounding tissues outward whilst simultaneously creating up to twice as wide a wound channel as a traditional JHP could have achieved.
rUnderwood adorns Xtreme Defender bullets with very useful performance-enhancing touches: sensitive Boxer primers, nickel-plated brass cases which reduce metal-on-steel friction in a semi-auto, and specially formulated propellant that won’t blind you with dazzling muzzle flash in the dark.
