Description
Don’t be thrown off by its unusual name: M855 ammunition is perfectly fine for AR-15 rifles chambered for 5.56×45. It just offers a little something extra as well!
rThis cartridge has a 62 grain bullet. That’s heavier than the 55 grain bullets most AR fans are used to seeing – and for good reason. Inside the full metal jacket bullet’s green-painted tip is a small steel core. That piece of steel makes the bullet a lot stronger than if its core had been made of solid lead, and accordingly better able to penetrate things like sheet metal. It’s no waste to use a penetrator bullet for something so simple as target practice, although some indoor ranges don’t permit bullets that attract a magnet.
rWinchester’s M855 ammo has reloadable brass cases and non-corrosive primers. Loaded to a muzzle velocity of 3,100 fps, its trajectory should prove nearly as flat as typical M193 ammo with the lighter bullet!
